New Horizons for Seniors Project

ElderDog Canada has received funding through the Government of Canada’s New Horizons for Seniors Program for a pilot project in Halifax (formerly HRM) to:

  • Develop a volunteer recruitment model for seniors to help seniors
  • Recruit and train volunteers who will take a leadership role in broadening its volunteer base for ElderDog Canada’s in-home service program that assists and supports older adults in the care and well-being of their canine companions.|
  • Leadership volunteers will receive training and will work closely with the Project Management Committee.

We are looking for Volunteer leaders in both rural and urban communities throughout Halifax  who are available to join the project immediately.  

Desired volunteer leader skills: 

  • Empathy with seniors 
  • Love of dogs 
  • Comfortable with public speaking 
  • Available to speak to individuals and groups as needed 
  • Organized 
  • Able to make a time commitment for training and recruiting 
  • Leadership skills 
  • Previous volunteer experience is an asset as is connection with seniors groups and organizations
